Amine Lymphedema Center Needs Your Support
We are currently working on a project to establish the first clinic in Algeria and the second in Africa dedicated to patients with lymphedema, also known as elephantiasis. This project is being undertaken in collaboration with an Algerian association called EChifaa, which already operates as a non-profit clinic providing assistance to patients with back injuries and rehabilitation.
Our motivation for this project stems from an unfortunate incident involving an Algerian individual named Amine, who suffered from extreme lymphedema in one of his lower limbs, causing it to weigh 180 kg. Despite the lack of proper diagnosis and treatment in Algeria, Amine was eventually evacuated to Germany where it was discovered that he also had a rare and complicated condition called Neurofibromatosis, in addition to lymphedema. Despite our best efforts and financial support to find a solution for him, including considering amputation as an option, Amine tragically passed away suddenly.
In response to this heartbreaking event, Maghreb American Health, which is part of an organization called the Worldwide Algerian Healthcare Alliance (WAHA-ALLIANCE.ORG), along with EChifaa association, have embarked on a mission to establish a clinic specifically dedicated to patients suffering from lymphedema. Our goal is to prevent similar tragedies by providing specialized care and support to those in need.
As part of our efforts, we have facilitated the training of professional therapists in Germany, who have subsequently shared their knowledge and expertise with others in Algeria. To date, we have trained 10 therapists who are now equipped to assist patients across the country, where such specialized care was previously unavailable.
While we have been able to treat 29 patients so far in a small room allocated within the EChifaa Clinic, our ultimate aim is to establish an official clinic that can accommodate a larger number of patients. The estimated cost for EChifaa to own and operate such a clinic is approximately $170,000 USD.
We are committed to realizing this vision and providing much-needed care and support to individuals suffering from lymphedema in Algeria. Your support and collaboration in this endeavor would be greatly appreciated.
